Declan's Dorm

After Declan was born, I quit my 9 to 5 job as proofreader/copy editor at Academic Press and started freelancing. Most of my work came from Academic Press, and this guy would accompany me to pick up work. In fact, all of our time was spent together.

Leaving him at his dorm, I was suddenly aware of what an understatement the phrase "They grow so fast" is. My brain--being what it is--immediately began scolding me for not doing more with Declan. For example, I fear that we never flew a kite together or launched model rockets. I should have taken him fishing more; I should have taught him more about working with your hands. The same taunts arose when Amy started college. There is no way to go back. The only hope I have is that Amy and Declan don't believe there was more to do.
